JEEP TOPS - AN OVERVIEW  by

 Billy Han
2/2/2008 at 13:22
The greatest standard feature of all Jeep Wranglers is the ability to customize with different Jeep tops based on seasonal changes, and manufacturers certainly know how to maximize this versatility.

But then, Jeep tops are one of those parts that can get a tad confusing due to the number of different options and styles available. Industry manufacturer Bestop alone offers over a dozen options for your Jeep tops, and that’s not even considering what you’re going to do about doors and windows.

So to make your shopping and customization easier, here’s a brief overview of a few of the various styles of Jeep tops:

Hard Tops

Hard tops offer superior insulation and protection, and also give your vehicle the appearance of a standard vehicle or SUV. They give your Jeep a rugged and complete look and feel, and are often equipped with popular vehicle features like power windows, rear window defrosters, and dome lights.

* Pros: Tough and rugged protection; heavily insulated for colder weather; packed with great features; available in a single piece model, or a 2-piece model with a removable front section.

* Cons: Can sometimes be more difficult to install without a hoist; hard to store without a custom storage cart of some kind.

Standard Soft Tops

Jeep soft tops are where the versatility really kicks in, with a wide availability of soft tops and accompanying Jeep parts. These sleek and stylish Jeep tops offer plush comfort, are easy to install, and sometimes offer inventive features like ...

A REVIEW OF THE 2008 FORD EDGE CROSSOVER  by

 John Bourne
2/2/2008 at 13:21
Ford has placed the 2008 Edge Crossover squarely in the middle of its competition. This Front-wheel-drive CUV beats them in several key categories, including price, available torque from the award winning 3.5 liter V-6 power plant, and second row leg room, with more than an inch over the nearest competitor. All of this, plus the option of Ford’s driver’s door keyless entry pad for ease of entry.

Ford began with a bold design and flexibility in mind to blend energetic performance with sedan like handling. This forward thinking has landed the Edge the "Most Appealing Midsized Multi-Activity Vehicle" in J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) study.

At the heart of the 2008 Edge is the 3.5L Duratec 35 V6 engine, with 265 horsepower and 250 lb. ft. of torque. Ford engineers utilized a roller-chain drive cam to lower friction and earn the engine an Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle II (ULEV II) emissions standard, a rating approved by the California Air Resources Board. Combine that with an estimated 24 mpg highway in FWD, and Ward’s designated the engine as one of its ten best for 2007.

Putting all of that power to the pavement is an Advancetrac fully-independent suspension with RSC (Roll Stability Control) standard. The sophisticated, standard 6-speed automatic transmission can be hooked up to an optional all-wheel-drive system for maximum adherence in any condition.

The Edge has also been named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for achieving the highest ratings in front, ...

SO YOU THINK TRUCK DRIVING IS EASY?  by

 Paul J Cox
2/2/2008 at 13:17
I know all of you, whether in the USA or not have seen truck drivers. They are what make the world go around. If it were not for a truck driver, driving all night and day then people would not have anything. I hear people all the time, laugh and make jokes about truck drivers. But until you have been in a truck drivers shoes, and done a 1/10 of what he or she has done then you need not make any jokes.

Yea, I know the requirements to become a truck driver are not much. All you need to do is be able to speak English, read English, and be able to write in the USA. Also you must not have a felony record, or be mental. Training going through truck driving school is easy enough, it only takes 3 weeks, and you are almost guaranteed a CDL license. It gets very hard after you go through school, believe me.

I have heard people say, "But all you do is sit behind the wheel and drive, how hard is that"?

Well let’s see here...

You have finally made it through school, and now have been hired with a company. You report to the company for orientation which will last for up to 5 days, and most company’s will only give you maybe $25.00 per day for this. Some company’s won’t even do this. Of course the feed you lunch, and put you in a cheap motel, and provide you with a van to take ...

BECOMING AN OWNER DRIVER - GETTING STARTED AS A COURIER  by

 Luke Humble
2/2/2008 at 13:14
Getting started as an owner driver is easy, and has the advantage of potentially becoming profitable pretty quickly due to the lack of overheads. However, there are some things to consider as you start, and this guide hopes to show you the kind of things you will need and the pitfalls to avoid when going freelance and becoming an owner driver.

What You Need:

Firstly, you need a vehicle. This is pretty damn obvious for anyone getting started as an owner driver, but it is still worth stating. The vehicle should be no more than six years old and can actually be of any size really - though if you’re serious about making this work, then investing in a larger van (as opposed to using a hatchback car) will allow you to transport larger loads, and thus charge more.

Secondly a mobile phone is all important for new owner drivers. These days, people who don’t own one are something of a rarity, so this shouldn’t be an issue: All the same, it’s important to be able to keep in touch with others from the road, so getting hold of such an ’unusual’ and ’exotic’ device is all important.

Finally, owner driver insurance is all important. The array of options can be confusing, but there are three types of insurance you need to look into, which I shall deal with now:

Get Insured

Courier insurance is all important for new owner drivers. There are three types of insurance you need to look into:

WINCHES - A FEW TIDBITS TO GET YOU STARTED  by

 Billy Han
2/2/2008 at 13:11
Listen carefully: winches are the single most important utility when taking on off-road terrain.

Many would list equipment like tires, lift kits, lockers, and other truck parts as their first priority, and while these parts certainly have their importance, the difference between a safe and a disastrous off-road expedition is whether or not your vehicle is equipped with a winch.

Why Winches?

While seemingly obvious parts to have, many are quick to overlook winches because they aren’t flashy or sexy parts, like lift kits or tires. What they don’t realize is what good are performance-boosting components when you’re stuck in a rough terrain recovery situation without a winch?

On a side note, 4x4 parts like tires, lift kits, and lockers can sometimes even be worse, as they inspire a fearlessness that might compel you to take unnecessary risks on off-road trails, thereby increasing the odds of a recovery situation.

But before your dive headfirst into getting that king-sized, ultra-tough Warn winch you stumbled upon online, take a minute to check out our quick rundown of winches and accessories.

Go Electric

Hold up a second, cowboy! Before heading down to the local depot and walking out with that hydraulic, military-grade monster Mile Marker winch, you might want to pay attention for a moment.

A first-timer looking for winches will be presented with a plethora of types, including hydraulic, electric, ATV, utility, and more. But let’s forgo lengthy explanations for each type and just say that for off-roading, you want to stick with electric winches.

If you plan on doing a ...

AFFORDABLE AND EFFECTIVE VEHICLE WRAPS  by

 Syed Raheem
2/2/2008 at 13:09
Advertisers are on the lookout for new mediums, as all products need to be advertised. You must have seen pencils engraved with the name of the travel company or maybe a cap that you received as a promotional product from some other venture. Companies are eager to fully utilize their money when they advertise- whether in a newspaper or a radio commercial.

While looking for new methods of advertising, vehicle wrap advertisements work best. Vehicles are being used as means of promoting and effective marketing tools. Being unique and different from the standard methods of marketing, the car and vehicle wraps stand out. Advertisements can be as simple as bumper stickers or intricate as a full vehicle wrap.

Vehicles are used to advertise, starting from magnetic signs or to vinyl wraps that have catchy by lines and colorful graphics. A variety of business go in for this innovative advertising medium, starting from small pet shops to large business that cater to a wider audience.

A vehicle wrap costs as much as 12 spots on the radio commercial time, while you might not have everyone logged on at that time. The vehicle wraps stay for at least 2 to 3 years, meaning that each time the colorful truck is on the road, people will see it and your money is utilized. At any given point of time, there are at least a few hundreds of people commuting. So, see the difference in exposure when it comes to advertising about a business, product, sale or entrepreneurship with ...

PICKUP TRUCK HAULER - DISCOVER THE BIGGER, TOUGHER BROTHER TO SPORTS UTILITY VEH  by

Pickup Truck Hauler - Discover The Bigger, Tougher
2/2/2008 at 13:08
Pickup truck haulers are the more sturdy, practical alternative to sport utility vehicles, and many people are now making the switch. They are certainly a growing market, but a number of obstacles stand in the way of sales. Rising gas prices and environmental pressure influence many people’s decisions of whether or not to buy, as well as the current dominance of sport utility vehicles on the market. Can they oust the competition and find their place in an over-crowded marketplace, or will they fall by the wayside as practicality gives way to political correctness?

Uses

Pickup truck haulers have a variety of uses, and in fact the phrase can mean a number of things. The hauler can be separate, like a trailer, or even an add-on at the back to hold motorbikes. Mostly, though, pickup truck haulers are elongated pickups, designed to carry much larger items and cope with a heavier workload. Apart from motorbikes, jet skis, powered parachutes, canoes, snowmobiles, rafts, and balloons can be transported to their destinations, and they are frequently used as mobile skips and organic waste disposal units. They are getting larger and more versatile by the year, and are so reaching broader markets and appealing to a wider range of users.

History

The humble pickup truck has been around since 1925, when Henry Ford introduced the "Ford Model T Runabout with Pickup Body". Selling at $281, they quickly established a new market in motor vehicles, which was seized upon by the general public. Farmers found them particularly useful, ...

USED TRUCK AUCTIONS - BUY FROM THE SOURCE AND GET BIG DISCOUNTS!  by

Used Truck Auctions - Buy From The Source And Get
2/2/2008 at 13:07
If you are looking to buy a used truck from an auction but don’t know where to start this is a useful source for you. What do you need to know before attending used truck auctions?

There are thousands of used trucks that have been auctioned off every year. They come from different sources. Some used trucks have been seized by Police Department, IRS, DEA or even FBI. The auction usually starts as low as $100 or even less in order to get people who are interested to move fast. The used truck auctions are available in all makes and models and they are usually only a few years old.

You might wonder why the prices of these used trucks are so cheap. The reason for this is the cost of maintenance and storing these used trucks are very expensive. In fact, it’s so expensive that the government and the financial industry want to get rid of the used trucks and recoup their money as quickly as possible.

The used truck auctions are open to the public which means we can attend the auctions and pay much less than the retail price of the trucks. These trucks have clean titles and usually come with low miles. Today, everyone can buy used trucks at much lower prices and the discount is up to 95% in many cases due to the increasing number of auctions online. One thing that you should always keep in mind for this used truck auction is never pay more than ...

GIVING TRUCKING A BAD NAME - 3 LORRY DRIVING SCOUNDRELS  by

Giving Trucking a Bad Name - 3 Lorry Driving Scoun
2/2/2008 at 13:06
Having been exploring Facebook lately, the reputation of the lorry driving haulage industry is clearly in need of a tune up. The number of groups created to slander the profession and express personal dislikes is enormous, and despite a recent survey claiming over half the participants see lorry drivers as unsung heroes of their community, the less then neutral source (Clearstone - a haulage recruitment company) makes me slightly skeptical that attitudes are changing.

Nope, I’ve seen first hand the kind of prejudices and stereotypes associated with truck drivers, and as with most scenarios of this type it’s a few bad examples tainting the good names of the others. Of course, some people are worse than others, and while road users can be rightfully annoyed at a lorry driver cutting them off, they should be glad that the majority of truck drivers don’t have the same ethics as the following lorry driving scoundrels:

3. Robert Raison - Love Rat

In 2004, the Daily Express reported of a man who had played out the same life pattern 3 times in a row. He would meet a woman; have a child with them and then move on to another. His job as a long distance lorry driver meant that he could get away with his audacious double life thanks to his unusual working hours, when in reality he was making his own unique version of domestic bliss with three different partners.

2. Steven Lee Olsen - Art Thief

Moving from unscrupulous ethics into the world of crime, ...

FUEL OIL TRUCKS GET DESIGN IMPROVEMENTS  by

Fuel Oil Trucks Get Design Improvements
2/2/2008 at 13:04
When fuel oil distributors talk about their truck needs, the most frequently mentioned among these needs are durability and maneuverability. Practical design enhancements can make fuel oil trucks better tools to provide greater productivity for the oil industry.

Fuel oil distributors engaged in the task of selecting new delivery truck enhancements typically have a list of ’must-have’ features and a list of ’like-to-have’ features. Ideally, the truck that finally gets purchased has all of the ’must-have’ features and at least a couple of the ’like-to-haves.’

Truck manufacturers have both of the lists and have been working to provide these and additional features after learning from the fuel oil distributors what actually is expected in performance. Bob Bees, marketing product manager for Volvo Trucks North America in Greensboro, N.C. said that while Volvo might not be an obvious or common choice for fuel oil delivery, "it’s got a great wheel cut" - a primary consideration for operators who require maneuverability in negotiating driveways and other tight spots in the course of making deliveries.

Home heating oil tankers typically have a capacity of approximately 2,000 - 3,000 gallons. These are typically single-axle vehicles. The front axle often ranges from 14,000 to 16,000 pounds, with a rear axle typically ranging from 23,000 to 26,000 pounds. "They might go all the way up to a 30,000-pound rear axle," Bees said. "We can do this making a very, very good home fuel oil truck, but it’s on the high end of the cost spectrum."

Other original equipment manufacturers (OEM) ...

WHY DID YOU FLIP ME OFF?  by

Why Did You Flip Me Off?
2/2/2008 at 13:03
Is it because of intimidation? Because we drive such a big vehicle, that you think we can just put it where ever we want? I mean yea, I would not recommend you playing chicken with a tractor trailer weighing 80,000 lbs versus your car weighing 4,000 lbs. The turn out would not be good for you.

Or is it because we make so much money? I know lawyers and Drs who have quit their profession to become truck drivers. So what could be so bad that most people absolutely despise truck drivers?

I go out and drive down the road, I will bet I get flipped off 10 times a day. Why? I don’t know, I don’t think I am that bad a looking guy. I know it is not my driving...oh wait I bet that’s it!

I remember now, we were on the interstate I was in the slow lane (right one) and came up on an on ramp, that had another vehicle merging. I put my turn signal on to let you know I needed over, but you acted like you did not see my 6 turn signals flashing. So I gave you a couple of seconds to decide whether or not you were going to move out of my way, then I was going to make the decision for you.

When I am in town driving (slow speeds) I can turn my turn signal on for a long period to get over.

When I am on the interstate, I usually give 4 ...
