SCOOTERS - WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO OWNING A SCOOTER  by

 Gavin Vincent
6/22/2008 at 09:01
Many people love the freedom of driving a car. However, as fuel prices rise due to the increase in oil consumption around the world, people are beginning to look at other means of transportation. A great alternative to driving a car is a motor scooter or simply known as a scooter.

One of the most common questions to ask when looking to buy a scooter is "What are some of the benefits to owning a scooter?"

One benefit is that scooters are very easy to use. They tend to be quite similar to motorcycles, however, unlike a motorcycle the engine of the scooter is located below the seat and above the rear axle. The scooter is also significantly lighter than a motorcycle and the step through frame creates a feature where riders can rest their feet on a platform or foot rest instead of pedals.

Another advantages is that they are economical. All over the world, motor scooters are a popular form of urban transportation due to their low cost. The price depends on many factors including whether you’re buying a high quality name brand versus an inexpensive and low quality model, the engine size that can range from 150cc to over 800cc, and the features you may want. Most beginning models can start below $1000.

Another way they are economical is via gas mileage. While most cars average approximately 20 miles to the gallon and hybrid cars can get 30 to 40 miles to gallon, that is quite low compared to o some ...

SCOOTERS - WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF A SCOOTER?  by

Scooters are quickly becoming a popular choice for cost conscious consumers looking for an economical way to get around town. Scooters have many benefits from low costs to above average fuel efficiency. However, when looking to purchase a scooter there are many features that you’ll either get standard or can upgrade. Here are some of those features:

Front Hydraulic ABS Disc Brakes Scooters can come with hydraulic anti-lock braking system (ABS) disc brakes on the front wheel. Hydraulic ABS disc brakes is a safety system on motor vehicles which prevents the wheels from locking while braking. Providing the best possible brakes to have because they provide the best stopping power.

100 MPG Scooters can get up to 100 miles to the gallon. While this may occur with the newer and higher end models, this kind of gas mileage makes this scooter very fuel efficient and economical. This vehicle is the perfect alternative to cars and motorcycles to save on gas and keep extra money in your pocket!

Electric Start / Kick Start Most scooters come equipped with an electric start. The electric start starting system makes starting simple for anyone. They can also come equipped with a kick start. The kick start can also be used at any time.

4-Stroke Engine Gas motor scooters come equipped with up to a 250cc 4-stroke engine. These engines typically have the ability to go up to 55 miles per hour (MPH). With an engine this size, there is enough power for two people to ride.

D&D FAT CAT HARLEY DAVIDSON PIPE REVIEW  by

 Jack Travers
6/22/2008 at 09:00
Harley Davidson Performance

A Harley Davidson is not exactly a bike known for its power, at least off the show room floor. For years riders bought a Harley Davidson for the style, the comfort and the heritage that comes with owning a piece of American Iron from a company with such a storied history as Harley Davidson.

That said, most Harley Davidson owners find themselves aching for more power almost from the minute they pick up their new Harley Davidson. The first place they turn is usually to a new set of pipes, not only for the power but for that trademark Harley Davidson exhaust note. Nothing sounds better than a Harley purring away from a stoplight.

I am a self admitted pipe junkie and I have tried a number of different exhaust pipes on my 2007 FXSTB Nightrain. My bike is a little hotter than most with a 107 ci engine, cams and ported heads but nonetheless I still find myself craving more power. I recently replaced my 2 into 2 exhaust system from a very reputable pipe company and replaced it with a D&D Fat Cat 2 into 1 Harley pipe. I had read about the strong power gains that can be had with a 2 into 1 pipe and all I can say is WOW!

The fit and finish of the D&D pipe is awesome and they installed quickly and easily. I was also very pleased when I fired it up for the first time to hear the exhaust note. It ...

MOTORCYCLE LUGGAGE HAUL STUFF THE EASY WAY  by

 Scott Nichols
6/22/2008 at 09:00
More often than not, ordinary people may think that all that there is to biking is the motorcyclist, the motorcycle and the open road on which he will pass. However, a motorcyclist also has personal items and some other accessories that he needs to bring along with him every so often. The list can include an extra t-shirt, cellphones, another pair of pants, extra shoes to replace motorcycle boots, as well as a rain suit when it comes to taking an extended two-week trip or just for carrying that extra something on the way to work.

A Number Of Options To Choose From

With the way they were built, one can conclude that motorcycles are obviously not meant to haul any extras luggage. Therefore, he would definitely need a motorcycle luggage to carry some of his or her personal belongings, as well as other necessities that he simply cannot do without. However, with motorcycle luggage around, life could be easier. Some of these motorcycle bags come with other bags that would also interest the motorcyclists, including backpacks, rear-seat bags, tank bags, soft saddlebags, all-in-one bags, hard saddlebags as well as integrated luggage that would help make traveling by bike a much more comfortable and enjoyable experience.

When traveling alone, the most logical place for the motorcyclist to carry the extra stuff is the passenger seat. There are many companies selling rear-seat haulers that makes carrying luggage using a motorcycle luggage item such as the rear-seat bag much more convenient. However, the motorcyclist needs ...

HOW TO START A SCOOTER THE FIRST TIME  by

 Allex Ebrandz
6/22/2008 at 08:59
The scooter was received and assembled, now finally to the long awaited moment, starting the scooter. The urge to stick the key in the hole, press the button and hear the engine purr is close to irresistible...

But it must be resisted. Though above may sound ideal, is not the case. Imagine a car that was parked for six months; it may not start at first try. In this case we are talking about a scooter that may have been sitting for 6 or more months in addition to having traveled by sea for 2 or 3 weeks; carburetors love fresh salty marine air.

This article aims at guiding first time scooter owners to properly start their scooter without blowing anything out.

Dos and don’ts:

1. If the scooter is 50 or 150cc, don’t try the electric start; at first kick start only
2. Do not, under any circumstance, try to jump start the scooter
3. Avoid using a charger. The engine will recharge the battery when it is started. If a charger is used, insure it is a motorcycle charger set to no more than 2 amps
4. If the scooter is equipped with an alarm, do not try the alarm or the remote start until the scooter started
5. Buy the most expensive fuel and fill the gas tank all the way up
6. Do not use any fuel additives or carburetor cleaner solution
7. Once the scooter is started, be ready to ride it for at least 15 minutes to charge the battery - letting the engine ...

CHOOSING THE BEST MOTORCYCLE TIRES  by

 Phil Reusch
6/22/2008 at 08:59
The primary part of any given vehicle is its tires, without which it is rendered unusable. They are subject to depreciation, and their durability is related to the manner of your maintenance. Before delving into the technical aspects of motorcycles tires, let’s try to understand the manner in which you can ascertain which tires suit you best.

The authorized dealer where you bought your motorcycle should be the best guide when you need recommendations about the tires you should use. Even the repair guys would give sound suggestions, and since both the parties have no personal interest in misleading you, their advice can be relied upon.

Apart from these guys, information can also be found in tire guides, journals, and the official website of the maker of the bike and on public forums. These will only help you subscribe to the information that you might have previously gained from any source.

A simple way to determine a good brand of tires is checking the brand that motorcycle competitors use in various competitions. If a brand you find is very common in use, you might want to have additional information on that given brand before trying out others.

Also, taking cues from the user manuals of your bike is greatly helpful. You won’t exactly jump with joy if you buy some tires that do not suit the kind of bike you possess, and thus making a mess of your motorcycle ride and overall performance is something that won’t excite you.

You must ensure that you grade ...

126MPG Scooter

Yamaha the world renowned brand name manufacturer of motorcycles and outboard engines are the makers behind the very popular Zumo range of Yamaha scooters, returning for you, a massive 126MPG.

The greatest advantage of scooters is that they are cheaper than classic motorcycles. These gas saving 50cc scooters are just fine for nipping around your town or city, although with this sized engine they cannot be driven on all highways since their top speed is just 35mph, but don’t let that put you off. For all your errands, shopping trips, going to university, work etc, they are well suited to this kind of short journey and at 126MPG, it’s certainly not going to hurt your pocket filling the tank up on one of these.

These 50cc scooters are very affordable and if used regularly over more traditional forms of transport i.e. your car, it should pay for itself very quickly indeed, literally within a couple of months or so, depending on how many miles you do. Of course you will never be stuck in a traffic jam ever again either, so whatever lack of speed it has, it will certainly make up for it in any busy city where traffic is a problem.

Scooters can also be ridden in most states, except California where different laws apply, so first check out local laws which may be applicable to you. In most cases they can be ridden on an ordinary license.

The Yamaha Zumo is also ideal to transport along with your motor home, ...

HOW TO GET YOUR HANDS ON A FREE GAS SAVING SCOOTER  by

 Mark P Andrews
6/22/2008 at 08:57
Would you like to receive a totally FREE no catches, no gimmicks ultra economical, 100MPG best MPG moped or gas powered scooter valued at $2000?

Ask yourself these questions and get a pencil or pen and a piece of paper handy.

How many vehicles are there in your family?

What is the monthly mileage of each vehicle in your household?

How much does each vehicle cost the household individually in gas per month based on it’s total mileage?

How much are you paying for gas where you live per gallon?

Now, add those figures up for all the vehicles, work out how much you are spending per month. Does that figure frighten you?

How many of those trips in your car/s are small journeys, when the engine is cold, stopping and starting, using more gasoline and now ask yourself this question. Is it really necessary to undertake all of these journey’s by way of one of my gas guzzling large cars, whatever the individual purpose is, for each journey?

If I told you to now work out the total mileage of these short journeys per month and asked you how much it would cost you at a conservative 80 MPG, what would the answer be? Write this down on your piece of paper.

Now, think about joining the thousands of other Americans who just like you today, are relizing that they are paying out an extraordinary amount of cash per month to keep and run their vehicles on the road.

Is there a solution? You bet there is!

If you were ...

BUYING A BLUETOOTH HELMET  by

 Keith Barrett
3/15/2008 at 08:47
Bluetooth motorcycle helmets are making it easier for motorbike riders to communicate than has ever previously been the case. If you’re looking to join this communications revolution, then it’s not as complicated as you might imagine.

For those of us who aren’t particularly technically minded, the thought of purchasing equipment such as this can be quite confusing. It’s natural that we should ask what bluetooth involves and how it can help us.

To begin with, let’s take a look at the general concept behind bluetooth technology. This technology was developed as a means of wireless communications, allowing various pieces of kit to communicate with each other, without the need for any cabling.

It’s become particularly popular due to its use in mobile phones. This is, in fact, where it can also come to the assistance of motorcycle owners.

By owning a bluetooth ready mobile phone and using it in conjunction with a headset that also makes use of the same technology, you can have hands free access to a telephone.

The advantages of this are clear to see - now you can communicate with other riders and people over greater distances, while still being able to concentrate on controlling your vehicle.

So is it as simple as purchasing a headset and then using it with your existing helmet?

In some cases, it can be. There are headsets on the market that are designed to work with a range of motorcycle helmets.

If your own helmet is not compatible, then you can opt to purchase one that is specifically ...

BLUETOOTH HELMET TIPS  by

 Keith Barrett
3/15/2008 at 08:46
Are you thinking about buying a bluetooth motorcycle helmet? There are a few things to look out for that could help to ensure that you make the best possible purchase for your needs.

Since this technology is relatively new, many buyers are still ensure of what to look out for. Let’s take a closer look at the key features that you should examine.

1. What type of helmet will you be using? This may seem like a strange question to be asking, but it’s absolutely vital to the buying process. You can purchase headsets that fit into your existing helmet, but you’ll find that not all helmets will be compatible.

If you’re intending on just buying a headset then you need to check that it will operate properly with your existing helmet. If it won’t, then you’ll need to look at an alternative, or consider buying a helmet that is specifically designed for this purpose.

2. What is the battery life like? If you’re intending on using the bluetooth device during long motorcycle rides then it will be vital that the battery doesn’t drain too quickly.

Look out for a device that offers a suitable battery life. They will usually be rated in terms of both standby and talk time.

3. Does it have automatic volume adjustment? Riding your motorcycle is a pretty noisy business. That can make it difficult to hear a mobile phone call and also for you to be heard by the person on the other end of the call.

The best bluetooth helmets ...

DO BLUETOOTH HELMETS WORK?  by

 Keith Barrett
3/15/2008 at 08:45
Bluetooth motorcycle helmets sound like an excellent idea, but how well do they really work. We decided to take one out for a spin. Read on to find out how we got on.

Bluetooth technology has been around for some time now, but it’s only just being embraced by the motorbike owning community. The basics behind the technology are, fortunately, fairly simple.

It was designed to enable various pieces of equipment to communicate without the need for cabling. Hence it’s often referred to as being a wireless form of communicating.

Typically, it might be used to enable a mobile phone to wirelessly communicate with another device. This could include another mobile phone, for instance.

At present, the technology is only effective over a relatively short distance. This means that it could be used to communicate between two devices that are within 50 metres of each other, but not for considerably larger distances.

So how can it be used on motorbikes?

The answer lies in the fact that bluetooth enables a mobile phone to communicate wirelessly with special headsets. In effect, your mobile phone call can now be relayed into a headset.

That headset consists of headphones and a microphone. When you use the device for the first time, everything suddenly seems so clear.

The technology is basically just facilitating a means of communicating in a hands free fashion. In short, it’s perfect for using on a motorcycle.

You might think that the noise that is inherent with a bike would prove something of a problem.

Fortunately, the manufacturers have been ...

DOT MOTORCYCLE HELMET APPROVAL REGULATIONS  by

 John Daniele
3/15/2008 at 08:45
The federal Department of Transportation (referred to hereafter as DOT) mandates that all motorcycle helmets in the U.S. be tested for safety. The DOT does its own in-house testing on these helmets, labeling those that meet its standards. If you are thinking about buying a motorcycle helmet and do not see a DOT sticker, think again. This is not a helmet you want to trust with your life. They are likely meant as a novelty item, not for motorcycle riding.

Get a proper helmet on your head, and get your head around these statistics -

The DOT’s studies show that the percentage of motorcycle riders wearing helmets has dropped 13 percent in the last four years, down to 58 percent of riders. Despite accounting for only 2 percent of the traffic on our roads, motorcycles are involved in 10 percent of all road accidents. Deaths from motorcycle accidents have more than doubled in the last decade, and number over 4,500 highway fatalities annually. There are also 78,000 motorcycle crash related injuries, and the rate of accidents among motorcycle riders over the age of 50 has increased fourfold.

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards -

The NHTSA, or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration set a FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard) for motorcycle helmets in the U.S. all the way back in August of 1973. This was last updated in October 1998. These standards cover impact and penetration protection, as well as being able to remain on the rider’s head during an accident. There is also ...
