CHOOSING A FAIRWAY WOOD  by

 Steve Crooks
6/21/2008 at 19:59
There are many difficult decisions to make while choosing golf clubs and especially fairway woods. Many people just look at a fairway wood and say "this looks like a great club", "it’s from a name brand or from a professional golfer series", and or that "it feels like I’ll have a great shot with this club". However, this is not how to purchase a fairway wood.

There are actually many factors that you should have in mind while going out to buy one. The basic categories that you will have to determine are the club head size, the size of the shaft, the loft, weight and length. You will then be able to find the perfect fairway wood for your price range. The club head has three club head sizes: standard (150-155 cubic centimeters), midsize (195 cubic centimeters) and oversized (195 -250 cubic centimeters).

The smaller the club head the easier it is to control but it also has a smaller sweet spot. The club is made from either stainless steel or titanium. This is normally more esthetic but it may have an effect on your swing and price range so it should be kept in mind.

Stainless steel brings a heavier feel to the fairway woods but it is less expensive while titanium is lightweight and it is forgiving on bad swings. The next category to take into consideration is the shaft. The shaft also comes in two materials: stainless steel and graphite. Once again, stainless steel is the best option for ...

HOW TO SHOOT LOWER SCORES  by

 Bob Charles
6/21/2008 at 19:58
The goal of every golfer at every level is to improve. This is usually defined as a lower score. At first you want to break 100, then 90, then 80 and so on. If you get to the PGA tour you want to win an event, then a major, then more majors. Even Tiger Woods talks about changing his swing and working on shots to keep getting better. Everyone has a different place where they get stuck trying to improve. Here we will talk about strategies to help you shoot lower scores at any level.

Short Game

Shooting lower scores is very much based on your short game proficiency. This includes chipping and putting. Your chipping needs to be good enough that you give yourself tap-ins once or twice a round. The other chips or shots around the green need to leave you within reasonable one putt distance. Whenever, you are faced with a shot around the green make certain that your next shot is a putt.If you are buried in a bunker just get it on the green and give yourself a putt. You don’t need to hit the hero shot. Playing shots that you know you can hit are the surest way to shoot lower scores. Groove your putting stroke so that you know where the ball is going to start. One of the best putting drills is to use 6 balls. Find a flat straight putt on your practice green. Place the first ball right on the lip of ...

HOW TO ACHIEVE A POWERFUL GOLF SWING  by

 Ryan Marx
6/21/2008 at 19:58
Are you wondering how to achieve a powerful golf swing? Many people find themselves constantly striving to improve their golf swing and how to make it more powerful. It is easy to learn how to achieve powerful golf swing and this article is going to give you some tips on how to make your golf game better.

Now some of you that are reading this article are most likely saying well if I want to hit the ball harder; I will just swing harder and faster. Well we have all seen a baseball player that tries to kill the ball; usually does not hit the most home runs. However the player that understands how to use his body to swing into the ball seems to hit the ball easily and is the one who most likely has the most home runs.

That is because if you are striving to kill the ball you will not achieve a powerful hit.

You have to learn how to use your body and your mind to achieve a more powerful golf swing. Anyone who plays golf understands that it is more of a mental game than a physical game. That is the reason many people talk about visualization. Although in every sport many athletes have utilized visualization to help them achieve the results they are looking for. So how can you use visualization to help you achieve your goals?

Well it is easy. If you are finding it difficult to get the ball in the hole or near ...

IMPROVE YOUR GOLF SWING WITH SOFTWARE  by

 Leroy C. Calstard
6/21/2008 at 19:57
Are you a golfer that is trying to improve your game? Most golfers are and there are many tools out on the market that will help you. Sure, there are several instructional videos out there but they won’t necessarily show you what you’re doing wrong; they’re not tailored to your strengths and weaknesses. This is where technology has stepped in. Whether you’re a novice player, a weekend warrior, or a die hard player, golf software may be the golf analysis that you need to help with your swing.

Your golf swing is the key to perfecting your game so it’s important that your swing is analyzed for technique and style. Computer software can do this for you and due to the game’s increase in popularity there are a number of products available. There is software that’s been around for a while (updated of course) and there is constantly new software being added to the market.

No matter what your skill level is or your physical make up, software can help you figure out what you’re doing wrong and therefore what you need to work on. You’ll learn how to improve your golf swing so you can play at your fullest potential.

Golf software varies and it’s a matter of preference and what will help you. If you think instruction from pro golfers will help then many include advice from your favorite professional. There is also software that shows everyday players (like yourself) being instructed. You’ll be able to relate to these players and ...

6 STEPS TO CHOOSING THE BEST GOLF BALL FOR YOUR GAME  by

 Tim Heeter
6/21/2008 at 19:56
Would you rather play all day in the rough or in the fairway?

Believe it or not, your golf ball selection can determine just that. Play your best golf by matching your ball to your ability, style of play, and equipment.

Perhaps you have more interest in buying a $300 driver or even a full set of clubs. However, keep in mind that a change as simple as buying a different ball (often a cheaper ball!) can dramatically improve your game. Follow these steps to evaluate golf ball comparisons and find the best ball for your game.

Ignore Marketing Ploys and Keeping Up With the Joneses

Do not buy a golf ball based on marketing information, price, or package labeling alone. Do not sell your game short by playing the XYZ ball because ABC does. Instead, use golf ball comparisons to locate a handful of balls that match your playing characteristics.

Understand The Basic Ball Types

You can easily rule out half of the golf ball choices by choosing whether you need a two piece or three piece ball (sometimes 4 piece). Each type has their own characteristics. Keep in mind that golf ball manufacturers can also vary the performance within each of these categories.

Two Piece Golf Balls

Two piece golf balls are made of a solid rubber core and a plastic covering. These balls are usually labeled distance balls. They can help higher handicapped players because they produce less spin. This results in less of a hook or slice from miss hits.

Three Piece Golf Balls

Three piece ...

GOLF TOURNAMENT GIFTS - GETTING IT RIGHT  by

 Harwood E Woodpecker
6/21/2008 at 19:55
Golfers are generally pretty competitive guys, after all golf can be such a frustrating game to play the only thing that keeps many golfers coming back for more is their competitive spirit and a will to improve and beat other golfers. Everyone is aware of the great golf tournaments and events around the globe, from the PGA to the Masters and the Ryder Cup but it is not only the professionals who have golf tournaments. Each year most of the larger amateur golf clubs hold an annual golf tournament in which there are usually 3 or 4 different categories to enable players of all standards to be able to compete for some kind of prize. These golf tournaments are usually very well organized and offer some great prizes out to the lucky golfers who win their category. But if you are organizing a golf tournament what sort of prizes should you be giving out to the winners?

Golf is very lucky in one respect as it is a sport that has no limit to the amount of gifts that are available with a golf theme. Many tournaments offer a small thank you prize to all competitors who sign on for the tournament, perhaps a logo golf ball with the details of your club or the details of the tournament as a souvenir of the tournament. You may even choose to give a custom logo golf tee away instead of the golf ball, these are cheaper but do not have the same ...

WHAT MAKES A GOLF COURSE SUCCESSFUL?  by

 William Atkin
6/21/2008 at 19:54
Have you ever wondered why some golf courses are successful and others nearby with similar terrain are not? Aside from the golf course’s reviews, operations or the value of real estate, what makes a golfer decide that a specific golf course is successful? What qualities deem it successful in the eye of the beholder? And who judges these courses anyway? It would seem that opinions on the success of a golf course would vary dramatically. Think about how a handicapped person would judge a golf course.

What about a professional golfer with exceptional skills that loves to be challenged? In contrast, how about a young group of women who occasionally get together to play golf on easy terrain because they think it’s just something fun to do, but are not truly dedicated to the sport? And, for that matter, do non-golfers opinions count? If a non-golfer drives by a course one day and notices miles and miles of beautifully cut green, perfectly landscaped trees and colorful flowers, with ducks swimming in a pond, do they get to decide if that course is better than another? With such varying opinions, who and what make a golf course successful?

It has to be said that the "wow" factor of a visually appealing golf course is usually a substantial determining factor relatable to its success. Although an architect may have designed the course with deep rough close to a fairway to be more visually appealing, does it make a golfer still want to play there ...

THE BEST WAY TO BECOME A GREAT CHIPPER  by

 David M. Goodman
1/26/2008 at 15:42
What is the most important shot in golf? I may get arguments from other golfers or teachers, so bring them on. I’m always in for a good debate. For the majority of you, getting good at this one simple shot will take more shots off your round than any other.

I’ll give you a hint, it is not the putt. Even though putting is half of the game, no matter how good you get you’re only going to sink about half of every 6 foot putt you have. (That’s the percentage for tour pros). And even if you never practice, you are still rarely going to 3 putt from that range. So, let’s think about the shot that so often precedes that putt. No, I’m not talking about the longer putt that came up short; I’m talking about the....CHIP! Yes...the little chip shot, the one that is only a few paces off the green, is KILLING your scores, not your driver! And here’s the travesty: it is, next to a two foot putt, the easiest shot to make in golf, no matter your age, gender or golfing experience. If you’ll bear with me, this one shot even somewhat mastered will take around 10 strokes off your game, even if you miss every 6 foot putt. And you can have fun getting great with chipping by practicing for 10 minutes a day 3 or 4 times a week in your living room. So pay attention!!!

Tell me if this sounds familiar? Your first ...

EIGHT TRAITS FOR GREAT GOLF  by

 Deborah Graham
1/26/2008 at 15:42
Ever wonder just what it takes to be a great golfer besides an awesome swing? We set out to find out by testing and working with members of the LPGA, PGA, and CHAMPIONS TOURS.

Analyzing the data was exciting because not only did eight traits for great golf emerge, each one of them measured in the 95th percentile, or was important more than 95% of the time.

Chances are good that you already have some of these champion traits. But the odds are very strongly against you having all eight of them. Even Bobby Jones & Tiger Woods have had to work on a few of them. Take a quick read and see how many of the eight traits are "in your bag".

FOCUS

How good are you at eliminating distractions whether they are coming from outside or inside of your head? Extroverts, intense thinkers and "left-brainers" need the most work on this one. Their thoughts can go anywhere and everywhere when over the ball, instead of simply seeing and feeling their shot or putt.

The solution is a simple, powerful, effective, and consistent mental pre-shot routine. If you do not have a good one, get one.

ABSTRACT THINKING

Twenty percent of your round, at most, is spent executing shots and putts. This means eighty percent, or more, of the time you spend playing a round of golf is time you should be managing your thoughts! The "intellectual" and "worrier" types need the most work here.

What you think about between shots influences your ability to use your ...

HOW TO USE A GOLF EXERCISE DVD  by

 Andre Sanchez
1/26/2008 at 15:41
A golf exercise DVD can be of great use to any golfer by keeping them in shape and maintaining the strength and flexibility needed to play the game properly.

Golf exercise and training videos really took off with the DVD boom years of the early 2000s. Although golf VHS tapes were reasonably popular, there was, and still is, a much higher demand for DVDs because of the advantages of navigation. With a DVD it is much easier to navigate to a section or exercise of choice by the use of chapters or thumbnails. This is a significant advantage for an exercise DVD where you can run the specific exercise you want when you have a few minutes to spare.

When choosing a golf fitness DVD try to get a preview, or at least ask the right questions. Golf fitness consists of three basic elements: strength, flexibility and stamina. The stamina is only needed to get round the course, although can be important for a tour professional who has to do this every day for four days, and perhaps even twice daily depending on the competition. The World Matchplay, for example, consists of 36 holes daily, and can place a strain on your general fitness level. However, there is nothing special about golf stamina training and it is the one aspect of golf training that can be done in a gym on a semi-recumbent cycle or a treadmill.

However, strength and flexibility training has to be specifically designed for golf. Powerlifting won’t help you ...

GOLF TRAINING AIDS TO HELP YOU IMPROVE YOUR GOLF GAME  by

 Andre Sanchez
1/26/2008 at 15:40
There are a large number of golf training aids that you can use to improve your golf game, and I am not talking about golf fitness here. Sure, you can get a whole host of fitness aids such as stability balls, weighted golf clubs and even simple exercise tubing. However, I am taking about training aids such as lasers, plane trainers and various types of putting aid.

There are a whole host of them, from aids designed to help you master your stance and set-up, thru a variety of laser-assisted devices to the large swing plane trainers. Look in any golf shop or online and you will find thousands of devices claiming to help you perfect your golf game. You can purchase grips that force you to grip the club the ’proper’ way, and even clubs that are flexible to give you more centrifugal power, or weighted to improve your rotational swing strength.

A very simple golf training aid is a strap that pulls your elbows closer to each other, and keeps your arms in the right position throughout your swing. By using such devices over a period of time, your body develops ’muscle memory’, so that you will use the same arm formation, grip or stance time after time without having to think about it. The correct way becomes second nature to you. The only problem is whether or not it is the correct way for you.

Golf swing plane trainers are popular, and many golfers keep one in their back yard ...

HOW TO PUTT AND READ A GREEN  by

 Andre Sanchez
1/26/2008 at 15:39
Every golfer must learn how to putt and read a green, irrespective of whether they just play the occasional round at weekends or if they are a golf tour professional. When putting, there is nothing you can do to curve the ball. Unlike a drive, where you can spin the ball clockwise or counter-clockwise to fade or draw the shot either to avoid an obstruction or for a better position for the next shot, there is nothing you can do with the golf ball when putting except hit it straight.

The purpose of reading a green, therefore, is know in what direction and how hard to hit the ball so that the curves and slopes of the putting surface leads it to the hole. In effect, when reading a green, you are looking for the slopes and contours that will take the golf ball off the straight line that it starts on.

The green can slope in a number of ways: it can slope downhill towards the hole, or uphill. It can slope (break) to the right or to the left, and most frequently the actual break on the green can be combination of any or even all of these with the one putt. Although different golfers have their own way of reading a green, there are certain general rules that can be followed to make the putt once you have decided how the green is sloping.

If you have decided that the green is sloping uphill towards the hole, then you are ...

PLANNING A FUN GOLF VACATION FOR THE FAMILY  by

 Robb Thomas
1/26/2008 at 15:39
Typically, golf vacations are for seasoned golfers who want to try their hand at new and challenging golf courses around the world. However, as the golf sector grows, the market is growing as well to include vacations geared toward golf training and family golf vacations. To learn about fun ways to plan a great family golf vacation, keep reading.

1. Choose a golf resort that’s family friendly.

If you’re planning to bring your family along on your next golf vacation, choose a resort that seems family friendly. Look for alternate activities like tennis, swimming, spas and recreation areas so that family members who don’t feel like golfing have other optional activities to do while you’re all out on the green.

2. Investigate training and school possibilities.

A lot of new golf resorts are starting to offer golf boot camps geared toward all levels and ages of players. If your little ones are just learning the sport or you’re trying to improve your skill, this can be a great option. Some resorts offer junior training camps and a separate course for the adults to enjoy while their kids are at golf school.

Another fun and cost-effective idea for families is to hire one professional instructor to work with the entire family over the course of a day or a week. Your instructor can evaluate your skill levels, work with you through a game, and you can spend your vacation learning the game together.

3. Try renting junior gear for the kids.

If your children are still growing, you ...

HOW TO PLAN A GREAT GOLF VACATION  by

 Robb Thomas
1/26/2008 at 15:38
For regular golfers, you know what it’s like to tire of all the courses at home. There are only so many golf courses in a city or even a state, and once you’ve been golfing for years, it feels like you know them all backward and forward. Planning a golf vacation is a great way to challenge yourself on a new course, improve your game and, of course, see the world. Keep reading for great ideas on how to plan a successful golf vacation.

1. Golf vacations aren’t typically about last minute deals.

While most vacations like cruises and all-inclusive resorts seem to be about the last minute deals, golf vacations typically aren’t so. Unfortunately for the prospect of your securing a golf vacation, golfers are typically great planners. So, if you want the best tee times at a popular resort or a guaranteed booking at the height of the season, make sure you book early.

2. Mid-week deals are the best deals.

Typically, many golf courses will charge higher fees on a weekend or a holiday. You’ll find the best deals, including for hotels, if you’re willing to golf during the week. This also usually means that you’ll get better tee times too.

3. If you’re a group, call ahead.

For a group of three or more, make sure the course knows you’re coming. A busy golf course can’t just slip in a large group of players, so you’ll need to book a specific tee time.

4. Check the cancellation policy.

Before you put a deposit down ...
